RS800 Coaching at Itchenor SC

12 RS800s gathered at the lovely Itchenor SC over the weekend for an action packed two days of coaching with skiff gurus Harvey Hilary and Stevie Wilson.  They were greeted with wall to wall sunshine and all-too-tempting cake.

On arrival, crews were given rig set-up advice as they rigged their boats followed by a classroom session on sail trim through the wind range.  Back in the sunshine the group split in two for land drill, breaking down tacking and gybing into bite sized steps. ...

Haltern am See RS Aero Challenge

The second German RS Aero Regatta of 2017 was held in Haltern am See near Dortmund on 13/14 May. Thirteen RS Aeros entered with the organising club Segelclub Prinzensteg.

In extremely good conditions, partly sunny, partly cloudy, at winds of around 10 knots, four of the overall six triangular route races were completed on the first day. Marcus Walther, sailing for DCSL Frankfurt, won the day. Julia Barthel from Seglerclub Dümmer and Thorsten Krug from Seglerclub Münster fought for...

Olá o meu nome é Fernando Gamboa, sou de Lisboa em Portugal… ohh wait I need to write this in English not Portuguese and it needs to be funny! Oh dear, a recipe for disaster!

So the race report for the open meeting in Reading Sailing Club… When I said that I was going to race in Reading Sailing Club everyone said it was going to be very shifty. Well I live in Portsmouth and when someone says to me “That place it’s shifty” I, with my language limitations, understand that I shouldn’t...

RS Vareo Magic Marine Grand Prix Event Number One

Race One:   The wind was building through the race.  Cheryl Wood started well but went too far left allowing Luke Fisher to take a small lead on the pack at the windward mark.  Nick Crickmore gybed off from the rear of the pack and caught a gust left downwind bringing him in to the bottom gate ahead.  In lap two Luke took the lead back to windward but then Nick gradually pulled away from the rest.  The race finished with...

Bough Beech RS200 Open 2017

A shifty force 3 north westerly greeted the competitors at the Bough Beech open meeting on 15th April. The fleet got away at the first attempt and it was Dave & Emma Derby who got to the windward mark in front. Despite strong challenges from Mike Green & Lynn Ratcliffe and Tom Wright & Chris Coulcher the Derby’s held on to win.

The second race was led from start to finish by Dave Jessop & Sophie Mear. They got to the windward mark in front & the planed off into...

Peter Barton of Lymingon, pictured with Kate Fortnam of The Green Blue, wins the RS Aero 9 class at the inaugural RS Aero Sustainability Challenge at Burghfield SC

Thanks to Richard Watsham who captures a great day's racing in his report perfectly;

27 RS Aeros traveled to Burghfield SC in order to compete in the inaugural sustainability challenge. With three fantastic trophies donated to the class by the Green Blue, warm spring sunshine and a light to moderate breeze the stage was set for a great first event on the UK Southern Circuit calendar 2017.

17 entries for the 9 rig, 7 entries in the 7 rig, and 3 opting for the 5 rig provided...

RS800 Magic Marine Grand Prix Event Number One

Competitors were greeted by glorious spring sunshine and a brisk NE wind blowing straight down the lake. Being the first event of the season there were a few questions to be answered:  How would Andy and Allyson Jeffries go in their brand new boat?  Had Luke and Emma McEwen been practicing?  How many would turn up with twin tillers and crew sheeting? ….and if they did would they be faster than the rest?  The answers: eventually very well, yes, one…  and the jury is still out on that one…...

RS200 SW Ugly Tour Event - Bristol Corinthian

The eagerly anticipated first event of the 2017 RS200 SW Ugly Tour, sponsored by www.2ndhanddinghies.com, kicked of with quite a bang on Super Saturday. Forecasts leading up to the event ranged from 16-25mph, with some agreement of some 30 something gusts thrown in for good measure. On arrival the former seemed like it may have some merit, but the ever increasing dark patches on the water seemed to have other ideas. A healthy turnout of 24 boats...

RS Sailing - Sustainability Programme

The core team at RS Sailing are life-long sailors who love being on the water. We’d like to think we’ve developed some great boats for people like us and for the next generation of sailors, so we want to do our part to focus on protecting the environment we all enjoy sailing in.

With that in mind RS Sailing is implementing a Sustainability Programme – analysing, improving and publicising, where helpful, relevant aspects of our boats and operations.

For example a high...

RS Aero UK Winter Series – Results after 8 events

The RS Aero UK Winter Series is entering its final stages and the score sheet remains wide open with a large bubble of RS Aero sailors still able to step onto the final podium. Sailors need their best three results to count out of the ten seasonal events and it is all to play for. One event (at least) of the three counters must be either the Oxford Winter Champs or the Island Barn Spring Champs where, importantly, tie breaks could be won.

So far seventy two RS Aeros have entered the...

RS Aero UK Winter Championships at the Oxford Blue

47 RS Aeros are greeted by the arrival of Spring at Oxford!

What a weekend! An incredible 47 RS Aeros entered The Oxford Blue which included the 2017 RS Aero UK Winter Championships. We had seen fleets of about 40 at events in the late autumn but we would never have anticipated 47 in February with so many committing a long way in advance!

The wind was light and inevitably there were challenges around the course. However with a nice 5-10 knots there was always good...

RS Aero UK Winter Series - Results after 3 events

After the flurry of Christmas and New Year events the RS Aero UK Winter Series is now three events in, each of those part of the GJW SailJuice series. This winter the Aero series visits 10 locations, spread over the length and breadth of the UK. With only 3 events required to qualify most sailors should be able to pick two nearby events and only need to travel any distance once. Three new locations are included this winter with Blithfield, Wimbleball and Island Barn all fresh on the series...
