According to Mark Rushall (June “Yachts and Yachting”) Hayling Island Sailing Club is a venue sailors seem to love or hate.  Probably loved by HISC members but the strong tides, sand banks, the waiting for the wind to arrive and the long queues getting off the island are aspects just about tolerated by visitors.

But, Aristotle famously said after his visit to Hayling Island Sailing Club “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”, and so it is.  The reason why over 200 boats...

RS Vareos at South Cerney SC Asymmetric Open Sat 27 May 2017

It was a great event, very challenging for most with winds ranging between Force 4 to 6; nevertheless 12 RS Vareos were keen to take to the water.

The first race was held in strong winds with three retiring during the race and many more capsizes keeping the safety boat crews busy.  A close battle between Cheryl Wood of Pennine SC, Phil O’Nions of South Cerney SC and Luke Fisher of Emberton Park SC ensued over the first couple of laps before Luke established a lead over Cheryl and...

RS Aero UK Eastern Areas - Downs Sailing Club, Kent, 20/21 May

As we woke from our slumber we had sunshine, blue skies, the view of the shingle beach rolling into the sea and the French on the horizon! Welcome to Down’s sailing club, famous for the landing of Julius Caesar and a pier the same length as the Titanic.

After a breezy Saturday and a few of the “Seaside” ales expectations were high for the RS Aero Eastern Area Championships. As we launched the breeze was there although considerably less than the day before.

The first race was...

12 RS800s gathered at the lovely Itchenor SC over the weekend for an action packed two days of coaching with skiff gurus Harvey Hilary and Stevie Wilson.  They were greeted with wall to wall sunshine and all-too-tempting cake.

On arrival, crews were given rig set-up advice as they rigged their boats followed by a classroom session on sail trim through the wind range.  Back in the sunshine the group split in two for land drill, breaking down tacking and gybing into bite sized steps. ...

Olá o meu nome é Fernando Gamboa, sou de Lisboa em Portugal… ohh wait I need to write this in English not Portuguese and it needs to be funny! Oh dear, a recipe for disaster!

So the race report for the open meeting in Reading Sailing Club… When I said that I was going to race in Reading Sailing Club everyone said it was going to be very shifty. Well I live in Portsmouth and when someone says to me “That place it’s shifty” I, with my language limitations, understand that I shouldn’t...

RS Vareo Magic Marine Grand Prix Event Number One

Race One:   The wind was building through the race.  Cheryl Wood started well but went too far left allowing Luke Fisher to take a small lead on the pack at the windward mark.  Nick Crickmore gybed off from the rear of the pack and caught a gust left downwind bringing him in to the bottom gate ahead.  In lap two Luke took the lead back to windward but then Nick gradually pulled away from the rest.  The race finished with...
